Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including two (2) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Job Description:

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Director Business Services to provide conceptual and process leadership at the college level. Reporting to the Assistant Dean and Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Director Business Services develops, manages and controls the business operations functions of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU (ASU Law). This includes budgeting, accounting, funds management, staff supervision, strategic planning, inventory control, internal procedures and other functions designated by unit administrator.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $107,000

Budget and Fiscal Management

Provide fiscal leadership and management of a multi-million-dollar budget that includes a large variety of funding sources.

  • Prepares financial and administrative reports; analyzes and interprets statistical, financial and management planning data for decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Manages the receipt and distribution of revenues, funding of accounts, and ensures the appropriate use of all types of university funds (GOT, NLT, PT, etc).
  • Regularly communicates with Provost office financial leadership regarding fund use and distribution
  • Regularly communicates with the Office of Planning and Budget regarding budgets and forecasts, reconciliations, and funds tracking.
  • Works collaboratively with budget holders and business staff to develop a financial strategy for unit budgets.
  • Prepares and/or coordinates the preparation of major operational and special budgets; prepares budget projection and analyses.
  • Oversees financial forecast development, including mid and long-range budget planning models.

Administrative

Provide leadership and oversight of the College of Law’s financial administrative operations

  • Oversees the development of processes that support the College of Law’s financial needs and priorities.
  • Analyzes and plans for capital equipment/improvement, supplies and service requirements.
  • Supervises work and manages performance evaluation of accounting staff.
  • Develops, implements and maintains fiscally related administrative policies and procedures.
  • Oversees personnel services budget, expenditures and revenues; reviews and authorizes purchase of supplies, services, and equipment.
  • Coordinates internal and external audits and prepares audit work papers.
  • Responsible for ensuring that salary planning and merit exercises balance to personnel budgets.
  • Coordinates or assumes other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in interpreting fiscal policies and procedures, preferably in higher education
  • Experience in using fiscal, budgeting software such as Workday and Adaptive
  • Experience in pulling, reviewing and comprehending financial reports
  • Experience in preparing, monitoring and forecasting budgets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic and financial planning/modeling principles, methods and practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervision practices and techniques
  • Experience performing financial functions in a University environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resource and financial systems (People Soft, Workday, Adaptive)
  • Evidence of effective communication.
