Overview

Job Title: Asphalt Production Manager
Region: Based in Phoenix, AZ
Reports To: General Manager

Position Summary

As the Asphalt Production Manager, you will be responsible for planning, leading, and overseeing all field production activities related to seal coating, asphalt paving, striping, and pavement maintenance and repair services. This role ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to quality standards while meeting client expectations and company performance goals. You will lead field crews, coordinate resources, and work closely with sales, account management, and operations leadership to deliver consistent results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Production and Operations Management
    • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily and weekly production activities for sealcoat, paving, striping, and maintenance crews.
    • Ensure all projects are executed according to scope, specifications, timelines, and budget requirements.
    • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
    • Monitor job progress and adjust schedules and resources as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Crew Leadership and Supervision
    • Lead, train, and supervise field crews, including foremen and operators, to ensure performance standards are met.
    • Set clear expectations for productivity, quality, safety, and professionalism.
    • Conduct regular jobsite visits to provide guidance, address issues, and ensure consistency across crews.
    • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management in collaboration with leadership.
  • Quality Control and Safety
    • Ensure all work meets company quality standards and applicable industry specifications.
    • Implement and enforce safety policies, procedures, and best practices across all jobsites.
    • Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and corrective actions as needed.
    • Address quality issues promptly and coordinate rework or corrective measures when required.
  • Project Coordination and Client Support
    • Work closely with account managers and sales teams to understand project scopes and client expectations.
    • Participate in pre job planning meetings to ensure smooth project execution.
    • Serve as a production point of contact for job related questions or field adjustments.
    • Support issue resolution related to production, scheduling, or jobsite execution.
  • Equipment and Materials Management
    • Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and readiness of equipment and vehicles.
    • Coordinate material needs including asphalt, sealcoat, striping paint, and supplies.
    • Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs to operations or purchasing teams.
    • Ensure equipment and materials are used efficiently to control costs.
  • Budget, Productivity, and Reporting
    • Track production performance, labor hours, and job costs to ensure profitability.
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance crew performance.
    • Provide regular updates and reporting on production status, challenges, and outcomes.
    • Assist leadership with forecasting, planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Culture and Teamwork
    • Promote a positive, accountable, and team focused work environment.
    • Collaborate with other departments to support company goals and operational alignment.
    • Lead by example in professionalism, work ethic, and adherence to company values.
Required

Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong working knowledge of asphalt paving, seal coating, striping, and pavement maintenance operations.
  • Proven experience managing field crews and production schedules in asphalt or related construction industries.
  • Ability to read and interpret project scopes, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with equipment, materials, and jobsite logistics.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Organized, detail oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, field driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a paving superintendent, production manager, or foreman.
  • Experience coordinating with sales or account management teams.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
