Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a high-performing K–8 public charter school network serving Title I communities across Arizona. With more than 20 years of success in education, AMS is committed to operational excellence, equity, and providing high‑quality educational experiences for all scholars.
The Head of Operations reports directly to the Principal and serves as the senior operational leader for the campus. This role is responsible for overseeing all non‑instructional operations, including student enrollment, campus facilities, front office operations, compliance, and support staff management. The Head of Operations also serves as the on‑site human resources partner, working closely with the AMS Network to ensure consistent implementation of operational and HR practices.
LocationInterested candidates must be available to report to any AMS location in Phoenix, AZ.
Compensation$70,000 – $80,000 annually (DOE).
Key Responsibilities Campus Operations & Facilities- Oversee daily campus operations, including facilities management, campus upkeep, janitorial services, and safety protocols.
- Partner with network operations teams to manage building maintenance, repairs, and vendor services.
- Maintain accurate records of campus assets, equipment, and inventory.
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and fire departments to ensure compliance with safety procedures and emergency drills.
- Manage student enrollment processes and ensure accuracy and integrity of student records and data.
- Oversee front office operations and support staff to ensure high‑quality customer service for families.
- Supervise non‑academic student programs, including before‑and after‑school activities and lunch programs.
- Serve as the on‑site HR point of contact in partnership with AMS central HR.
- Support hiring, onboarding, evaluations, and performance management of campus operations staff.
- Partner with school leadership on staffing decisions, compensation guidance, and support staff development.
- Manage campus‑level purchasing of supplies, materials, and equipment in alignment with network policies.
- Monitor operational budgets and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Support operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a management or operations leadership role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operational management principles and best practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high professional standards.
- Willingness and ability to address hands‑on facility needs, including coordination of repairs and maintenance.
- Commitment to serving students in underserved or at‑risk communities.
- Experience working in a school, nonprofit, or education‑based organization.
- Experience supporting HR‑related functions (hiring, onboarding, employee relations).
- Familiarity with student information systems and enrollment platforms.
- Demonstrated success managing cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
