The City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture champions, promotes, and supports the City’s arts and culture community to make Phoenix a great place to live, work, and visit. The department manages an award-winning public art program; grants funds to artists and nonprofit arts organizations; oversees a dozen cultural facilities; professional development opportunities for arts administrators and individual artists; and participates in national studies and research that make a strong case for the arts and demonstrate their economic, social, practical, and educational benefits.

The Office of Arts and Culture seeks a dynamic individual to serve as the agency’s property manager. The position is responsible for managing and directing the agency’s cultural facilities portfolio, including support staff. It assists the deputy director in the department’s management and day-to-day operations; coordinates assigned activities with outside agencies and performs related duties as assigned.

Key Duties
  • Manages and directs the department’s cultural facilities portfolio, including developing and implementing policies and procedures, budgeting, and conducting regular site visits.
  • Identifies, plans, administers, coordinates, and inspects improvement projects, and processes work order requests in partnership with City departments.
  • Creates, negotiates, reviews, amends, and enforces agreements applicable to cultural facilities, including operating and funding agreements.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communications with tenant representatives and non-profit operators.
  • Evaluates facility needs and determines the best use of funds based upon available funding, deferred and preventative maintenance, safety concerns, and tenant and operational needs.
  • Directs and supervises cultural facility management support staff.
  • Writes administrative, analytical and commission/city council reports, and makes public presentations as required.
  • Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of experience managing commercial or public works property, or managing public works construction projects.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in property management, public or business administration, communications, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience and knowledge working at or with a governmental arts agency.
  • Procurement, budget, and project management experience.
  • Supervisory experience with municipal facilities management and staff.
