The Assistant Director of Engineering plays a key leadership role in the daily operation of the Engineering Department. This position supports and acts as the Director of Engineering in their absence, serving as the primary day‑to‑day leader for the team. The role includes direct oversight of front‑of‑house (FOH) maintenance, repair, aesthetics, and guest‑facing spaces
, ensuring that all public areas, lobby spaces, restaurants, meeting areas, and guest interaction points are maintained to Hyatt’s high brand standards. This leader ensures a safe, well‑maintained, and operationally excellent environment through proactive inspection, maintenance planning, team development, and strong collaboration with other departments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Leadership & Department Management- Serve as the day‑to‑day leader of the Engineering Department, overseeing all routine operations, work order management, staff assignments, and daily maintenance execution.
- Lead, coach, and develop engineering team members, including training, scheduling, performance management, and ongoing development.
- Act as Director of Engineering in their absence, ensuring continuity in operations and decision‑making.
- Foster strong communication and collaboration hotel operations teams to support guest experience standards.
- Oversee public‑area maintenance, including lobbies, front desk areas, elevators, restrooms, restaurants, bars, corridors, meeting spaces, and exterior guest pathways.
- Ensure all FOH spaces are visually flawless, safe, and fully operational, addressing issues promptly with minimal guest impact.
- Partner with the Director of Operations and Operations leaders to anticipate needs and maintain brand‑alignment in appearance and functionality.
- Conduct daily FOH walkthroughs, identifying issues and ensuring timely resolution.
- Review and refine SOPs for front of house preventative maintenance tasks.
- Conduct routine property inspections, document findings, and ensure corrective actions are completed efficiently.
- Support and help manage capital improvement projects, coordinating contractor work to minimize guest disruption.
- Help manage inventory, purchasing, work‑order prioritization, and departmental budget controls.
- Ensure proper execution of safety compliance in alignment with hotel and OSHA regulations.
- Respond efficiently to guest‑impact situations, ensuring prompt corrective action and proactive communication with operation leaders.
- 3–5 years of progressive engineering/facilities experience in hotels or commercial buildings preferred.
- Supervisory or leadership experience required.
- Proficiency in computer systems and software, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) for reporting, scheduling, and communication.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) for monitoring and operating HVAC, electrical, life‑safety, and other facility systems.
- Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), including HOTSOS or similar service‑order and work‑order technology.
- Ability to analyze data, create and manage work orders, track preventive maintenance schedules, and leverage CMMS reports to drive operational performance.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain operational accuracy under pressure.
- Ability to interpret complex technical information, drawings, and equipment data to support diagnostic and problem‑solving work in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and life‑safety systems.
