Overview
The Sr. Manager, Transportation – SSA will ensure a transportation department culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost. The role involves leading transportation operations, coordinating shipments, maintaining a safe working environment, and driving cost‑effective processes.
Responsibilities- Achieve safety, service, and cost targets; promote a safety‑first culture.
- Oversee and develop Transportation Managers through coaching, training, and problem resolution.
- Develop drivers and personnel, addressing performance gaps and fostering engagement and retention.
- Build high‑performing teams by reviewing staffing, hiring, and coaching to meet service and safety objectives.
- Monitor production goals, maintain a zero‑error attitude, and address delivery issues with legal and cost‑effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with company, state, and federal DOT regulations.
- Improve delivery reliability through efficient production flow and process improvements aligned with business goals.
- Identify waste and improve processes for safety and efficiency.
- Analyze daily performance metrics and recommend changes to VP Operations.
- In union facilities, assist HR and VP Operations with collective bargaining agreement provisions, discipline, grievances, and arbitrations.
- Perform other duties assigned by the manager.
- Direct:
Transportation Managers, union and/or non‑union transportation associates (Dispatchers, Clerks, Routers). - Indirect:
Union and/or non‑union drivers.
- Internal:
Transportation leaders, VP Operations, drivers, routers, warehouse leaders, and cross‑departmental customers (e.g., Sales). - External:
Customers.
Time spent in an office working on a computer and in a truck with drivers, exposed to higher levels of noise and vibration.
Minimum Qualifications• Minimum five years of transportation/delivery supervisory experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities- Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people‑development skills.
- Effective communication across all associates and departments.
- Knowledge of DOT, inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret financial and operational data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
10% travel required for mandatory meetings and training.
Education / TrainingHigh school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

CompensationBase pay range: $80,000 – $130,000, depending on experience, education, skills, and location. Incentive compensation may also be available.
