Summary The Receiving Chemist I is responsible for Lab Pack Coding/Processing, Drum Receiving/Coding, and the Shipping of waste materials. This position verifies counts and container sizes for incoming loads, conducts initial sampling to confirm acceptance, applies barcodes for material tracking, and ensures all activities comply with facility permits, RCRA, DOT, and EPA regulatory requirements. Day Shift Pay – $19.00 to $22.00 hr

Regulatory & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with 49 CFR, 40 CFR, facility permits, and all applicable environmental and safety regulations.
• Properly manage all waste generated from analytical procedures.

Lab Pack Coding & Processing

• Receive and code all lab pack containers according to disposal requirements.
• Perform consolidation or repack processes and complete associated paperwork.
• Manage cylinder activity, reactive materials, and lab pack bulking as needed.
• Operate lab pack systems using Clean Harbors proprietary software.

Drum Receiving & Coding Operations

• Sample incoming drums and perform basic chemical analysis per established procedures.
• Calibrate and use laboratory instrumentation for required testing.
• Complete QA/QC documentation, drum sampling forms, and analysis paperwork.
• Investigate missing/extra drums and non-conforming shipments.
• Apply barcodes, assign routing, and weigh drums when needed.
• Move drums from staging to appropriate storage areas.

Shipping & Outbound Materials

• Manage all outbound drum and bulk shipments.
• Ensure least-cost routing using proper profiles and shipping paperwork.
• Prepare, stage, and label shipments according to DOT and facility guidelines.
• Coordinate with National Logistics for scheduling and compliance.

Sampling & Material Verification

• Open and sample all plant-received materials following WAP and CHES guidelines.
• Record results and collect lab-analysis samples as required.
• Verify inbound material counts against shipping documentation.

• Maintain safe working conditions and comply with OSHA, Health & Safety, and company protocols.
• Train and mentor Receiving Technicians and Chemist I employees.
• Manage supplies within assigned areas.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• Required:
  
  2 years of college or specialized training in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Experience:
  
  0-3 years (alternative combinations of education/experience considered).

• Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to changing business needs.
• Strong understanding of math, chemistry, and chemical testing.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Windows-based applications.
• Experience in Receiving, Shipping, or Lab Pack operations preferred.
• Understanding and tested knowledge in at least two of the following:
• Lab Pack Coding/Processing
• Drum Receiving/Coding
• Shipping of Waste Materials
