The Process Piping Engineer is responsible for the engineering, design, and process development of pipe fitting manufacturing operations. This role supports new product introduction (NPI) from concept through production launch, ensuring manufacturing processes meet quality, throughput, cost, safety, and code compliance targets. The engineer partners closely with product engineering, quality, tooling, supply chain, production, and customer technical teams to bring new pipe fitting products to market and drive continuous improvement in existing manufacturing lines.
Key Responsibilities Process Engineering & NPI Support- Develop and own manufacturing process designs for pipe fitting production including forming, machining, joining, casting/forging interfaces, surface treatment, and assembly operations
- Define process flows, routings, manufacturing sequences, and work instructions from prototype through production release
- Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews to reduce complexity, material waste, cycle time, and production cost
- Define process assumptions, tooling requirements, operating windows, and acceptance criteria for new product designs
- Support pilot builds, prototype development, and production ramp activities
- Develop and maintain process specifications covering materials, joining methods, coatings, cleaning, marking, inspection requirements, and surface treatment standards
- Select manufacturing methods and materials appropriate for product performance, manufacturability, and lifecycle cost objectives
- Support products involving carbon steel, stainless steel, copper alloys, HDPE, forged components, castings, machined parts, threaded fittings, grooved systems, and flanged assemblies
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards including ASME B16 series, MSS standards, ASTM material specifications, and OSHA safety requirements
- Coordinate with customers, suppliers, and third‑party agencies on qualification and certification requirements
- Collaborate with Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Tooling, and Production teams to ensure manufacturing intent is effectively implemented on the shop floor
- Develop BOMs, tooling requirements, RFQ packages, and technical evaluations for manufacturing equipment and supplier selection
- Lead process reviews through concept, pilot, pre‑production, and production release phases
- Support resolution of NCRs, process deviations, and manufacturing change implementation during production ramp
- Define QA/QC requirements including dimensional inspection checkpoints, pressure/leak testing requirements, cleanliness standards, and first article inspection (FAI) criteria
- Support development of PFMEAs, control plans, operator work instructions, and launch readiness documentation
- Participate in root‑cause investigations related to dimensional non‑conformance, leaks, surface defects, tooling failures, and manufacturing escapes
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve process stability and product quality
- Standardize and modularize manufacturing processes to improve repeatability, throughput, launch readiness, and cost competitiveness
- Capture lessons learned from NPI and production programs to improve standards, specifications, and manufacturing documentation
- Identify and support capital equipment, tooling, and automation investments that improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction,…
