Capital Power (TSX: CPX) is a North American energy company dedicated to powering change through lower‑carbon power solutions. We are hiring an Outside Operations Team Member for our Harquahala Combined Cycle Power Plant.
Responsibilities- Ensure safe operation of all plant equipment, including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, HRSGs, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, and fire suppression systems.
- Read meters, gauges, and automated devices to record data such as temperature, vibration, operating hours, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry.
- Start, stop, and manipulate equipment as directed.
- Perform chemical offloads in accordance with written procedures.
- Communicate issues or non‑routine items to the Control Room Operator and assist in troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts.
- Execute lock‑out/tag‑out procedures for plant equipment.
- Maintain operational consistency across crews and departments.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal regulations and corporate/site procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance as directed and log performance into Maximo.
- Build strong relationships with other crews and departments.
- Operate heavy equipment such as a manlift and forklift as required.
- Perform general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the facility.
- Provide on‑the‑job skills training in complex technical areas as required.
- Education
:
Completed high school diploma. - Experience & Skills
- Interest in learning how power plant operations work; previous operator experience is an asset.
- Willingness to learn control‑room functions in combined‑cycle plants.
- Basic understanding of water systems and exposure to water testing, treatment, and safe chemical handling.
- Willingness to learn about turbines, steam generation, plant safety practices, and equipment monitoring.
- Interest in reading piping diagrams and basic process controls.
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving ability.
- Effective communication skills and ability to foster a positive team environment.
- Technical Skills
- Solid ability to troubleshoot equipment, systems, and safety issues.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn operation and maintenance of gas‑power plant equipment.
- Ability to identify equipment issues and support troubleshooting efforts.
- Physical requirements:
lifting, climbing, use of PPE, and working outdoors in a safety‑sensitive environment. - Shift: 12‑hour rotating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Union: IBEW
769. - Pre‑employment drug test clearance required; pre‑employment medical clearance required.
- Legal eligibility to work in the United States.
