The Facilities / Chemical Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all chemical and hazardous waste management operations on site at a large industrial engine manufacturing facility. This role combines hands-on work on the production floor with inventory control and logistics coordination, ensuring that chemicals, oils, and waste materials are safely received, stored, inspected, and shipped in accordance with client processes and regulatory requirements.
Approximately 20% of the time is spent performing physical work and inspections on the floor, while about 80% is dedicated to computer-based coordination, reporting, and inventory management.
Responsibilities
- Manage on-site inventory of chemicals, oils, and spill control materials to support client process requirements.
- Perform regular visual inspections of materials, storage areas, and waste containers, and prepare clear inspection reports.
- Coordinate deliveries of chemicals and related materials, including scheduling incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Receive chemical shipments and verify accuracy, condition, and documentation upon arrival.
- Prepare materials for proper transport and delivery to requested locations as indicated on client work orders.
- Store all materials in the main chemical storage yard using pallets, racks, or containment devices as appropriate.
- Conduct weekly inspections of the chemical storage yard to ensure organization, safety, and compliance.
- Inspect waste containers to confirm they meet DOT packaging requirements prior to loading onto trailers.
- Monitor telemetry on used oil tanks and notify the designated point of contact when tanks are full and ready to ship.
- Ensure containers are properly labeled for the accumulation of industrial wastes in accordance with procedures.
- Load trucks for hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments, following all safety and handling protocols.
- Use computer systems to manage inventory, schedule shipments, and maintain accurate records of materials and waste.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders and client contacts to coordinate deliveries, pickups, and inventory needs.
- Provide customer service support related to chemical ordering, inventory status, and scheduling.
- Work safely within a large industrial environment, following site safety rules and participating in safety programs as required.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience using computers for inventory management and scheduling incoming and outgoing shipments.
- At least 1 year of experience working in an industrial environment such as construction, manufacturing, distribution, or services.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds as part of material handling and loading activities.
- Current and valid driver's license.
- Intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet and database software, including tools such as Microsoft Excel.
- Strong computer skills for inspection reporting, inventory management, and order processing.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods within a large industrial facility.
- Customer service skills to effectively interact with internal teams and client contacts.
- Attention to detail for visual inspections, labeling, and compliance with DOT and site requirements.
- Basic understanding of material handling and chemical management in an industrial setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Exposure to industrial safety programs and training.
- Experience working with chemicals or in chemical management.
- Experience in aerospace or similar advanced manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER).
- Familiarity with enterprise systems such as SAP, ERP, or MRP for inventory and order management.
- Experience with chemical ordering processes and documentation.
- Ability to work some light overtime when operational needs require.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple shipments, inventories, and inspection schedules.

Work Environment
