Position Summary

Phoenix Pumps is seeking an Experienced Manual Machinist to join our Service Center team. This position is responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and refurbishing precision components used in pumps and other rotating equipment.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled manual machinist with extensive experience operating manual machine tools, interpreting engineering drawings, and holding tight tolerances. This role requires a craftsman who can work independently to produce high-quality parts while supporting the repair and rebuilding of critical rotating equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Set up and operate a variety of manual machine tools including engine lathes, vertical and horizontal mills, horizontal boring mills, drill presses, grinders, and other manual machining equipment.

Machine new components and repair existing parts used in pumps and rotating equipment.

Manufacture precision components from raw materials including steel, stainless steel, bronze, plastics, and composite materials.

Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.

Perform precision measurements using micrometers, inside and outside micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and other inspection equipment.

Maintain close dimensional tolerances and verify finished parts meet quality specifications.

Trim pump impellers and perform machining operations necessary to support rotating equipment repairs.

Support balancing and precision fitting of rotating equipment components.

Utilize 3D scanning technology and other measurement tools when required.

Inspect finished work to ensure compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards.

Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Work closely with Pump Repair Technicians to manufacture replacement parts and support equipment rebuilds.

Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum of 5 years of experience operating manual machine tools in an industrial or repair environment.

Strong understanding of manual machining practices, tooling selection, feeds, speeds, and machining techniques.

Experience machining a variety of metals, plastics, and composite materials.

Ability to independently read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.

Proficiency using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges.

Strong understanding of material properties and machining characteristics.

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience machining components for pumps, rotating equipment, or industrial machinery.

Experience trimming pump impellers and supporting balancing operations.

Experience working in pump repair, rotating equipment, oil & gas, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or aerospace environments.

Experience using 3D scanning or advanced inspection equipment.

Trade school, apprenticeship, or vocational training in machining or manufacturing technology.
