Production Control Specialist (Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing setting)

Location:

CMI Group - 3617 E La Salle St, Phoenix, AZ 85040

Shift: Full time, day shift - On site required, not a remote position.
Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship or Valid Permanent Resident status is required.

Position Summary

The Production Control Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, and tracking machining jobs through the assigned production workflow(s). This role ensures that all customer orders, work orders, and manufacturing jobs progress on schedule, and comply with internal and regulatory standards. The position acts as the primary interface between production, planning, engineering, procurement, and quality teams to maintain accurate job status and support efficient shop floor operations.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and update production schedules based on capacity, material and machine availability
  • Maintain real-time job status in the production tracking system (ERP/MRP) and proactively communicate delays or needed adjustments
  • Track job progress from raw material allocation through machining, inspection, and final shipment
  • Coordinate with machining leads, water spiders and managers to resolve job flow issues, bottlenecks, or constraint points
  • Perform job splits, confirm production counts, ensure documents are completed, perform closing operations ensuring system parts complete count match actual production, and generate MRRs for non-conforming products
  • Expedite high-priority or behind-schedule jobs while balancing overall production flow
  • Provide directions to water spider for material and tooling and gage staging
  • Coordinate production feeds between departments ensuring proper documentation is maintained
  • Support root cause analyses of activities related to schedule misses, material shortages, or documentation errors
  • Provide daily/weekly reports on job status, WIP levels, and schedule performance metrics
  • Assist with capacity planning and forecast updates as customer demand or internal constraints change
  • Ensure compliance with quality and traceability requirements in all production documentation and job movements
Qualifications
  • 3 years of experience in production control, scheduling, or manufacturing coordination within an aerospace or precision machining environment
  • Syteline ERP experience is preferred but not required
  • Must be a U.S. Person per ITAR requirements (citizen or permanent resident)
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, shop floor workflows, and WIP tracking
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting tools
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially with controlled aerospace documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively across production, engineering, quality, and procurement teams
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ITAR, and aerospace manufacturing standards
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods when working at a computer.
  • Ability to move throughout the production floor to observe workflow and communicate with production teams.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move materials, documents, or small components up to approximately 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment with noise, machine activity, and required PPE.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and via electronic communication.
  • Ability to perform fine-motor tasks such as handling documents and entering data.
