The GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to help expand our reach, partnerships, and visibility across the geospatial profession. GISCI is the professional certifying body for the GIS Professional (GISP®) credential and works to advance excellence, ethics, and professionalism in the geospatial field.
About the PositionThe Community Engagement Coordinator is a relationship-focused position responsible for developing partnerships, increasing participation in GISCI programs, and strengthening engagement with GIS professionals, employers, educators, and professional organizations.
The ideal candidate is an outgoing, motivated professional who enjoys building relationships, identifying opportunities, promoting programs, and turning engagement into measurable growth.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain relationships with GISCI Endorsing Employers, Associate Partners, Ambassadors, GISPs, educational institutions, and professional organizations.
- Identify and pursue new partnership and business-development opportunities.
- Represent GISCI at conferences, meetings, and other industry events.
- Manage and grow GISCI’s employer, partner, and ambassador programs.
- Support outreach, marketing, social media, newsletters, and website communications.
- Coordinate with contracted media and marketing resources to promote GISCI programs and initiatives.
- Support the GISCI Outreach Committee and other community engagement activities.
- Track engagement and partnership metrics and provide reports to leadership and the Board.
- Collaborate with GISCI staff and Board members on initiatives that increase awareness and value of the GISP® certification.
- Contribute ideas and strategies for expanding GISCI’s visibility and impact within the geospatial community.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, geography, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in business development, partnership management, outreach, marketing, or community engagement.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a remote environment.
- Experience working with nonprofits, professional associations, or certification organizations is desirable.
- Familiarity with GIS and the geospatial profession is a plus.
- Preference will be given to candidates who are, or have been, a GISP®.
Starting salary: $65,000–$75,000, depending on experience.
GISCI provides allowances for self-directed medical and dental insurance and a self-directed retirement fund. A retirement plan will be available after one year of employment. Employees also receive paid time off and holidays.
Location & TravelThis is a fully remote, U.S.
-based position, with approximately 40 hours per week. Occasional travel is expected for conferences, meetings, and partner visits.
