About Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM)

The Phoenix Conservatory of Music unleashes the power of music by providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible music education to more than 1,800 students each year across the Greater Phoenix area.

As Arizona’s only Berklee College of Music City Music Network partner, PCM provides a full pathway from early childhood music through a nationally recognized College Preparatory Program. PCM’s work is grounded in Creative Youth Development and guided by the values of:

PCM is currently executing a multi-year strategic plan (FY25–FY28) focused on expanding access, strengthening sustainability, and significantly growing philanthropic support to meet rising community need.

Position Summary

PCM is seeking mission-driven community leaders to serve on its Volunteer Board of Directors with a particular emphasis on:

  • Fundraising and donor engagement
  • Strategic marketing and community visibility
  • Network activation and relationship building
  • Financial and organizational sustainability

While the Board’s core role is governance and strategic oversight, PCM is specifically seeking board members who understand that ensuring adequate resources and elevating the organization’s visibility are critical responsibilities of board leadership during this phase of growth.

This is a working board for leaders who are ready to contribute time, talent, influence, and philanthropic commitment.

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Strategic Leadership

  • Uphold and advance PCM’s mission, vision, and values
  • Provide strategic oversight aligned to PCM’s multi-year strategic plan
  • Ensure strong governance, financial stewardship, and policy adherence
  • Participate in evaluating and supporting the Executive Director
  • Serve on committees and task forces as needed
  • Actively participate in donor cultivation and fundraising efforts
  • Open doors to networks, corporate partners, foundations, and individual donors
  • Support major gift conversations and stewardship efforts
  • Participate in donor events, cultivation experiences, and campaigns
  • Make a personally meaningful annual philanthropic contribution
  • Support 100% board giving participation

Strategic Marketing & Community Visibility

  • Serve as an ambassador for PCM in the community
  • Elevate PCM’s brand visibility through professional and social networks
  • Advocate for PCM’s impact with civic, corporate, and philanthropic leaders
  • Help position PCM as a leader in arts education and youth development
  • Attend bi-monthly board meetings (virtual or in person)
  • Participate in committee meetings on alternating months
  • Attend key PCM events and performances throughout the year
  • Review materials and actively engage in board discussions
Ideal Candidate Profile

PCM is seeking leaders who:

  • Have experience in philanthropy, fundraising, marketing, business leadership, or nonprofit governance
  • Understand how relationships and storytelling drive philanthropic investment
  • Are passionate about youth development, arts education, and community impact
  • Possess strong networks and are willing to leverage them on PCM’s behalf
  • Bring strategic thinking, integrity, and a collaborative spirit
  • Are excited to help an organization grow in visibility, sustainability, and impact
Preferred Experience
  • Executive or senior leadership in business, nonprofit, arts, education, or philanthropy
  • Experience with fundraising, donor cultivation, or grant strategy
  • Knowledge of governance practices and financial oversight
  • Background in positive social impact, ESG practices, or community leadership
  • Three-year term, eligible for one renewal term
  • Volunteer position (no compensation)
  • Bi-monthly board meetings; committee meetings on alternate months
  • Attendance at select PCM events encouraged
  • Personal philanthropic commitment and active fundraising participation expected
