Overview
The Bridge to Hope aims to end homelessness One Family at a Time by equipping the church to mentor a single mother and her children in crisis. Teams of mentors work with their sponsored B2H family. Mothers live in nearby apartments rented by The Bridge to Hope and have regular fellowship with their mentoring team. The ministry seeks to help mothers obtain essential education and/or training to gain employment and become self-supporting within about two years.
The program operates in Phoenix, Arizona.
Homeless single mothers (drug-free and alcohol-free) with minor children under age 10, who are physically and emotionally capable of full-time employment. Historically, the program has served five families, with capacity to serve 8–12 families per year and up to 24 months per family.
Roles and involvementVolunteer mentors form a church-based team of 8 to 12 mentors. They work directly with a B2H family to provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support. Partnering churches support the ministry through financial giving, mentoring, and prayer to help sponsor families as they gain stability.
- Create and support a mentoring Church Team for a homeless family
- Attend Bridge Dinners twice a month
- Bring the family to church weekly
- Coordinate one fun activity per month
- Provide transportation when needed
The church serves as a support system beyond the B2H staff's working relationship, helping families socialize, learn their identities beyond homelessness, and model hopeful, faithful living.
