Biodiversity Outreach Coordinator - Environmental Literacy Corps Ameri Corps Program
Organization and mission: The Office of Environmental Programs advances environmental protection and sustainability through coordination with City departments and the community.
The Office of Environmental Programs provides environmental compliance support, provides specialized training, coordinates with regulatory agencies, and develops programs and policies to guide City activities and the interaction of those activities with our urban and natural environment.

Primary Function/Purpose:
This position will develop and implement strategies to further the City's biodiversity/pollinator efforts within the community. The position will work with internal departments and community partners, and will develop opportunities with additional community groups to expand environmental knowledge and on-the-ground impact of the biodiversity program.
MajorResponsibilities and Duties:
- Collaborate with departments and community partners to develop tools for and implement outreach to key stakeholder groups, including HOAs.
- Support efforts to present and expand the City's primary biodiversity public community event, Nature Fest PHX.
- Develop a public pledge opportunity for the new Bird Friendly PHX program.
- Develop long-term strategies to continue to expand biodiversity efforts into additional key stakeholder groups, including K-12 schools.
- Weekly schedule can be flexible, but 3 days per week is requested.
- Occasional work on Saturdays is anticipated for educational outreach at public events.
- Bi-weekly pre-tax living stipend while in service: $768.00.
- Segal Ameri Corps Education award after successfully completing service: $5,176.50.
- Student loan forbearance and interest repayment for qualifying federal student loans.
- Professional development opportunities and training.
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Community education and outreach skills and experience, particularly related to building support and encouraging participation for voluntary initiatives.
- A Bachelor's degree in biology or other relevant science field.
- Understanding of the Sonoran Desert, biodiversity, and pollinator habitat needs.
- The ability to communicate effectively across a wide range of stakeholder groups and knowledge levels.
- Experience creating strategies for effective outreach, education, and communication for engaging diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Experience with planning public events.
- An understanding of green stormwater infrastructure and its varied co-benefits would be a bonus.
