Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Call for Nominations — Steward Recognition Award

Stewards are the backbone of our union. As volunteers, they serve as vital links between our members, the employer, and the union—offering support, guidance, and advocacy that helps improve our workplaces.

To recognize their efforts, we invite members in the Prairie/NWT Region to nominate a steward who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, time, and commitment to our union and fellow members.

How It Works

All nominations received will be reviewed by a regional committee. Input from Employment Relations Officers (EROs), who regularly work with stewards, may also be considered.

From these nominations, stewards whose efforts meet the selection criteria will be recognized with a commemorative memento at our upcoming Regional Steward Council. One exceptional nominee will be chosen as the Steward of the Year
, to be honored at the PIPSC Annual General Meeting in Toronto.

Eligibility

Nominees must be stewards located in the Prairie/NWT Region and must have actively served as a steward for at least one year.

Who Can Nominate

Regular members and EROs are eligible to submit nominations.

Each nomination must include:

  • Nominator’s full name, phone number, and email address
  • Steward’s full name and contact information
  • A written submission (max. 300 words) describing the steward’s contributions and qualities
Selection Criteria

Nominees will be evaluated based on their involvement in activities such as:

  • welcoming new employees and encouraging PIPSC membership;
  • engaging RANDs to sign membership forms;
  • promoting awareness of the collective agreement, including the union’s role in achieving it and explaining members’ rights;
  • participating in and encouraging involvement in sub-groups, branches, groups, or other union bodies;
  • pursuing ongoing union education and training;
  • listening to member concerns, clarifying issues, and offering guidance;
  • working to resolve workplace issues informally, including meeting with management;
  • supporting members through the grievance process, from gathering facts to providing ongoing assistance; and
  • other meaningful activities that support members and strengthen the union.
Submission Deadline

All nominations must be submitted no later than 4:00 PM (MT) on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Let’s celebrate the incredible work of our stewards—nominate someone who’s made a difference!
