About the Position

Are you a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant interested in making a difference in a diverse and underserved population? In this critical role, you will work with a team of professionals at Correctional Health Services (CHS) to coordinate care within the County jail facilities. CHS uses the latest evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and public health recommendations to provide care for detainees.

Note:

this position works overnight from 6 PM – 6 AM, with a weekend rotation.

We Require

  • Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing OR graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a valid unrestricted license to practice issued by the State of Arizona

Job Contributions

  • Collaborates and communicates with hospitals, medical providers, community agencies, state and federal agencies, and other counties regarding continuity of medical care
  • Makes recommendations in writing for protocols, policies, and procedures to support surveillance, data analysis, and other activities
  • Obtains history and completes physical examinations of patients incarcerated in Maricopa County jails
  • Evaluates and treats patients in compliance with CHS policies and procedures
  • Documents patient encounters according to CHS protocols in a SOAPE format
  • Develops and updates individualized treatment plans for patients with chronic conditions or special needs
  • Orders onsite lab work, radiology studies, treatments, and medications as medically indicated
  • Refers patients to external service providers, including specialists and diagnostic studies
  • Performs minor procedures such as sutures, incisions and drainage of abscesses, simple splints, punch biopsies, and pelvic exams
  • Participates in peer review, in-service training, quality improvement processes, and other meetings necessary to improve patient care
  • Maintains applicable licensure and skills according to state law and policy
  • Responsible for periodic after-hours phone calls for patients in Maricopa County Jails
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director, Mental Health Director, or designees
