Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience with cardiac patient care and the ability to pass a pre-employment dysrhythmia exam.
Responsibilities- Work setting is an acute care, Level I Trauma Center CTICU/CVICU with 24 beds
- Common patient diagnoses include cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CRRT, lung transplant, thoracic surgery, ECMO, esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, TAVR, and Empella
- Patient ratios are 1:1–2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
- High volume of bedside procedures including bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter insertions, and epidurals
- Philips telemetry equipment used; no dedicated IV team — strong IV skills are essential
- EMR is Cerner
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available 24/7; pharmacy supports transplant patients
- Intensivist on-site during days and on-call at night; charge nurse available without a patient assignment
- 2 PCTs available on days and nights during high census
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage based on unit rotation
- Floating required to other ICUs, all telemetry units (4:1 ratio), and the Westgate campus; travelers float before permanent staff
- Provide high-acuity cardiovascular intensive care including management of cardiac surgery recovery, mechanical circulatory support devices, CRRT, and transplant patients
- Day 1 orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; nurses who break sterile field may be immediately released
- Orientation also covers lifts, restraints, and wound care in an educational format
- 2-day floor-specific orientation provided
- Scrub color is navy
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Personal vehicle required
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; CVICU experience preferred — ICU RNs with cardiac patient experience will be considered
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Experience with IABP and CABG required to take independent patient assignments
- Strong IV skills required (no IV team on unit)
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- CCRN certification preferred
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address verified by driver's license)
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
