Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract in a Level 1 Trauma adult ICU, requiring a minimum of 2 years ICU experience in a 600+ bed teaching facility.
Responsibilities- Adult ICU at an acute care Level 1 Trauma facility, encompassing SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU pods across 120 total beds (40 beds per pod)
- Patient populations include sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, Rota Prone therapy, heat stroke, OD, post-operative vented patients from the OR, transplant cases (lung, liver, kidney), severe trauma (MVA, GSW, closed head injuries, ortho trauma), and complex surgical cases (Whipple, back surgeries)
- RNs are required to titrate drips and manage common titratable and set-rate drips
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; ventilators in use include Cervo I, Jets, and Oscillators
- Intensivist is in-house 24/7
- RNs are required to read and interpret their own cardiac monitor strips
- Charting is done in Cerner
- Bedside procedures include bronchoscopies, tracheostomies, and hemodialysis catheter placements
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 3 weekend shifts per 4-week scheduling period
- Holiday coverage follows core staff rotation
- Travelers are required to float among all ICU pods, as well as Med/Surg and Tele units, and may be asked to float to an additional campus
- Self-scheduling is used with the scheduler's right to rebalance
- 2-shift unit orientation provided on the floor
- On Day 1 of orientation, RNs complete a pass/fail SIMs Lab covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — maintaining sterile field is critical, as nurses have been terminated for breaking sterile field during this assessment
- Additional orientation topics (non-pass/fail) include lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Navy scrubs required
- Candidates must have natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean-shaven (required for fit test)
- Candidates must have personally owned reliable transportation
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Experience in a 600+ bed academic teaching facility required
- Level 1 Trauma ICU experience required
- Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
