Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position at a Level I Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience with cardiac patient care and ACLS/BLS certifications.
Responsibilities- Acute care setting in a CTICU/CVICU unit with 24 beds
- High-acuity cardiac patient population including cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CRRT, lung transplant, thoracic, ECMO, esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, and TAVR cases
- Patient ratios of 1:1–2 with a high number of 1:1 assignments; tele float ratio of 4:1
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- Philips telemetry monitoring equipment used on unit
- No IV team — strong IV skills are essential
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7 (pharmacy supports transplant patients)
- Intensivist on-site during days and on-call at night; charge nurse present with no patient assignment
- 2 PCTs available on days and nights during high census
- 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage based on unit rotation
- Floating required to other ICUs, telemetry units, and the Westgate campus; travelers float before permanent staff
- 2-day floor-specific orientation
- CCRN certification is preferred
- Experience with IABP and CABG qualifies candidates to take those patient assignments
- High volume of bedside procedures including bronchoscopies, Swan-Ganz catheter placements, and epidurals
- Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam on the second attempt or fail the SIMs Lab sterile technique assessment are ineligible to work at Common Spirit facilities in the AZ and Sacramento regions for 6 months
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; PRN work through outside staffing firms is permitted
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates; permanent address is verified via driver's license
- Navy scrubs required
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
- ICU experience with cardiac patients required; CVICU experience preferred but not required
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Strong IV skills required — no IV team on unit
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; two attempts allowed
- Must pass a Day 1 sterile technique SIMs Lab (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes); this is a pass/fail assessment
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Must have personal vehicle for travel team requirements
