The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.

Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the unit/program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs.

The Physical Medicine & Rehab/Physiatry Clinic RN provides leadership to clinical support team for interprofessional care of patients with complex pain-related needs and intuitively identifies primary source of patients' problems based on knowledge and experience with patients experiencing pain. Provides patient-specific pain education to patients and families related to routine and complex procedures. Leads clinical support group in evidence-based quality improvement activities related to pain management and measuring outcomes.

Assists provider with procedural sedation for patients with complex medical needs, including persistent pain. The nurse will mentor, teach, and precept nurses and other healthcare professionals in the care of patients with complex pain.
