The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes or contributes to a care plan, which may include activities such as administering medication, carefully checking dosages, starting, maintaining, and discontinuing intravenous lines, administering therapies and treatments, observing patients and recording observations, and consulting with physicians and other clinicians.

The RN teaches patients and families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explains post‑treatment and home care needs, diet, nutrition, and exercise programs, and self‑administration of medication and therapy. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, delegates when appropriate, supports advancement of clinical knowledge and skills, precepts new staff and students, assists them in completing competency tasks, and continues to enhance knowledge in nursing management and patient care.

Collect health data systematically and prioritize collection based on patient condition. Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise family‑centered care plans that are evidence‑based and culturally relevant. Implement interventions, treatments, medications, and emergency measures using standing orders, policies, and procedures. Provide nursing care that meets physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs. Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes, document observations and interventions, and assess practice quality.

Integrate ethical principles, enhance cultural competence, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participate in professional development, and apply evidence‑based research to improve practice and outcomes.

• Associates degree or Diploma in Nursing. All staff who have direct responsibility for stroke patients must meet additional stroke‑specific education requirements.
• All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5+ years of Registered Nurse experience at the time of hire.

• 1 year RN experience for all float positions.
• Required >10 months med‑surg or acute specialty setting.

• Registered Nurse (RN) license, State of Arizona or state/compact license valid in Arizona.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• Unit‑specific certification as required by specialty area.
• National certification for the unit‑specific patient population preferred.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience in acute specialty settings.
