The Person al Care Registered Nurse is responsible for the care of an individual student. The exact needs of the student will be discussed in the interview. The RN must hold a valid license and work with the Special Education Department to ensure IEP requirements are followed.
Essential Functions- Assist in the care of the student in accordance with the student's care plan.
- Maintain information about the health and developmental status of students.
- Support nursing care plans with specific goals and interventions tailored to the student’s needs.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Document nursing care via computer program.
- Participate in meetings (staff, district, IEPs, 504s, etc.) to convey or gather medical and health-related data required for student care.
- Report student/school health and safety status to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies to maintain student personal safety and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel/agency.
- Maintain current knowledge in the area of specialization.
- Support the goals and objectives of the school and district.
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills: Ability to perform multiple complex technical tasks, proficiency in nursing assessment tools, use of personal computers and related software, preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge: Age-appropriate application of nursing process, epidemiological nursing framework for pediatric influences, assessment of common pediatric diseases, understanding of federal and state mandates relating to school health services.
Abilities: Work with diverse individuals and groups, establish constructive relationships, adapt to changing priorities, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, perform age-appropriate pediatric assessments, follow school nurse policies and practice as dictated by state and district guidelines, apply nursing theory for decision-making.
ResponsibilityWork under limited supervision using the Scope and Standards of Practice for School Nursing; direct other persons within a small work unit; utilize resources from other units.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; exposure to risk of injury and illness.
ExperienceMinimum two years recent experience in a public nursing medical, pediatric or emergency room setting.
EducationBachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Equivalency and TestingCertificates and Licenses: Current professional nursing license, current CPR certification, Arizona Nursing Certification or National School Nurse Certification (to be acquired within three years of hire).
Continuing Education/Training: Not specified.
Clearances: Criminal Background Clearance;
Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
