- Phoenix is located in downtown Phoenix, AZ and is a magnet‑status hospital known for teaching future nurses and physicians. As an ICU Donor Care Nurse you will participate in our Nursing Clinical Ladder Program and work in a unit that is the first in the state of Arizona to focus on organ procurement. The new Donor Care Center will start with 4 beds and plans to expand.

Your role will involve caring for brain‑dead patients, providing autonomy within a multidisciplinary team to optimize organ viability for procurement.

We are hiring nurses with 2+ years ICU RN experience. You will also have the opportunity to use our self‑scheduling tool for shifts and weekend coverage. Enjoy an 18% night shift differential and a flat rate of $3/hour weekend differential.

Eligibility for Sign‑On Bonus

Requires 1+ years of ICU experience.

Position Summary

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice using the framework for nursing practice and development. It is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction. The position uses specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to assess data and plan appropriate care for patients of all ages.

Core

Functions
  • Formulates and initiates a plan of care using assessment data and team input; plans and reviews care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and revises the plan based on patient status changes.
  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health‑care team. Provides care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Delegates appropriately and provides nursing supervision to other licensed nurses and personnel. Ensures continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely, and policy‑compliant, reflecting objective/subjective data, interventions, and patient responses. Notes physician orders accurately and promptly.
  • Provides evidence‑based care and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership and engages in the education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, families, and visitors. Supports growth through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
  • Contributes to society by delivering excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Participates in improving national nursing quality indicators and outcomes and may engage with professional organizations.
  • In some roles, supervises staff and workflow of the department.
  • Interacts with all levels of staff across departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts such as community providers, other health‑care institutions, and agencies. Provides spiritual support in collaboration with clergy. Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to support the patient and family during changes in health status.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Current, valid RN license in state of practice or a compact RN license for the state of practice.
    • BLS and ACLS certification required; additional certification or continuing education may be required based on practice area.
    • Three years’ experience in an intensive care setting; must maintain clinical performance competencies through annual validations.
    • Must be able to work independently and uphold clinical knowledge in the ICU setting.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Professional certification preferred.
    • Experience in organ donation care preferred.
    • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
