Position Summary
This circulating RN supports physicians in the Cardiovascular Operating Room and Main OR. Responsibilities include assisting with advanced cardiac procedures, monitoring cardiopulmonary bypass, interpreting lab tests, and collaborating with surgeons and support staff to promote a trusting, teamwork-focused environment.
Prior OR experience preferred as this role will float heavily to the Main OR.
Core Functions
Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history, physical exams, diagnostics, laboratory data, and reports abnormal results to physicians and other caregivers. Completes assessments and reassessments as outlined in policy.Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs and reviews and revises the plan to reflect changing patient needs.Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the healthcare team. Provides care based on physician orders and nursing plan of care, promotes continuity of care through accurate communication to other caregivers.Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revises plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health team members.Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely, and in accordance with policy.Provides care based on best evidence, may participate in research activities, engages in unit or facility shared leadership, and mentors others when appropriate.Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes, participates in professional organizations, and supports improvement of national nursing quality indicators.Might supervise departmental staff and workflow in some roles.Interacts with all levels of staff and external contacts to support patient care, including clergy for spiritual support and external agencies.Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, or a temporary/interim RN license, or compact RN licensure. BLS certification required. Minimum of one year RN experience in the operating room. New-to-service nurses must complete the Perioperative Academy curriculum and the Banner RN Perioperative Services Competency Tool within the first year. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area through annual validations.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred. One year of operating room and/or cardiovascular or vascular experience preferred. Professional certification preferred. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
