Position Summary

Seeking an experienced clinical critical care RN leader with at least 5 years of direct bedside experience. This leadership role focuses on clinical expertise in the PICU specialty, mentoring, and quality improvement. Though the Clinical Nurse Attending does not have formal direct reports, they provide leadership through subject matter expertise, collaboration, and influencing practice at the bedside. The role empowers nurses, supports growth, and drives improvements in quality and patient outcomes.

The incumbent will support our bedside nurses on our specialty PICU unit. Must have a BSN or graduate level degree and a national certification (CRRN, CEN, CPN) or be willing to obtain one within 6 months. Strong leadership and clinical skill set in critical care, change agent mentality, and passion for quality and safety are required.

Position Duties
  • Clinical Expertise
    • Facilitates nursing interventions based on risk anticipation and evidence to improve outcomes.
    • Assists with change initiatives to reduce discrepancies between practice and standards.
    • Assesses anticipated health risk discrepancies in individualized plans.
    • Uses best available evidence to drive quality, safety, and fiscally responsible outcomes.
    • Utilizes performance tools to access patient statistics and apply evidence-based interventions.
    • Coaches, delegates, and supports team members in nursing procedures with focus on safety and competence.
    • Mentors and coaches new and experienced nurses and other team members.
  • Quality Improvement & Safety
    • Evaluates patient handoffs and transitions to improve outcomes.
    • Communicates current quality and safety guidelines to the interprofessional team, patients, and caregivers.
    • Plays a role in interprofessional team by planning, implementing, and coordinating care with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, and nurse practitioners.
    • Promotes a culture of safety using high reliability principles.
  • Information Technology & Data
    • Collects and utilizes data to generate evidence for practice.
    • Provides input in design of data resources that generate meaningful evidence.
    • Interprets patterns and trends to evaluate care outcomes against benchmarks.
    • Uses performance measures and information technology to improve delivery of evidence-based practices.
  • Organizational & Systems Leadership
    • Collaborates within the team to focus on patient-centered care.
    • Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurse managers, and others to plan, implement, and evaluate improvement opportunities.
    • Participates in a shared leadership model to recommend care delivery improvements.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Leads group dynamics and manages conflict.
    • Demonstrates effective communication skills (verbal, non-verbal, written, virtual).
    • Facilitates integration of services across the continuum to influence, achieve, and sustain high-quality care.
    • Facilitates collaborative, interprofessional approaches and strategies in coordinating and evaluating patient-centered care.
    • Facilitates transitions across care settings to support patients and families.
    • Advocates for patients within the delivery system to effect quality, safe, and value-based outcomes.
  • Health Promotion
    • Engages in partnerships at multiple levels to ensure coordination, delivery, and evaluation of preventive and health promotion interventions.
    • Implements strategies for encouraging a culture of inquiry within the team.
    • Disseminates practice changes and improvements to internal and external audiences.

Position Qualifications
  • Education
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. (Required)
    • Master's degree in related field (Preferred)
  • Experience
    • Five or more years of related experience in a health care setting. (Required)
  • Special Skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate positive customer relations. (Required)
