Job DescriptionPosition Title: SPED Instructional Assistant / SPED Personal Care Registered Nurse
Location: Paradise Valley High School
Schedule: 9 months, 6.75 hours/day
A Personal Care Registered Nurse is responsible for the care of an individual student. The exact needs of the student will be discussed in the interview. They hold a valid RN license and work with the Special Education Department to ensure all IEP requirements are followed.
Essential Functions- Assist in the care of the student in accordance with the student's care plan.
- Maintain information about the health and developmental status of students.
- Support nursing care plans with specific goals and interventions delineating school nursing action unique to student’s needs.
- Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Document nursing care via computer program.
- Participate in a variety of meetings (staff, district, IEPs, 504s, etc.) to convey and/or gather medical and health‑related data needed to perform job functions.
- Report student/school health and safety status to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies for maintaining student personal safety, a positive learning environment, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Respond to emergency situations for immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel/agency.
- Maintain current knowledge in the area of specialization.
- Support goals and objectives of the school and district.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Skill:
Apply nursing assessment tools, operate standard office equipment including personal computers and software; prepare and maintain accurate records. - Knowledge:
Age‑appropriate application of nursing process; epidemiological nursing framework for pediatric influences in the school setting; assessment of common pediatric diseases; federal and state mandates relating to school health services/practices. - Ability:
Work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; establish and maintain constructive relationships; adapt to changing work priorities; maintain confidentiality; exhibit tact and patience; perform age‑appropriate pediatric and adolescent physical/behavioral assessments; follow school nurse policies as dictated by state and district guidelines; apply appropriate nursing theory as basis for decision‑making in school nursing practice.
Responsibility
:
Working under limited supervision using the Scope and Standards of Practice for School Nursing; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilization of resources from other work units.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
ExperienceMinimum two years recent experience in a public nursing medical, pediatric or emergency room setting.
EducationBachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
EquivalencyRequired testing, certificates and licenses:
Current professional nursing license, Current CPR certification, Arizona Nursing Certification or National School Nurse Certification to be acquired within three years of hire.
Continuing Education/Training, Clearances:
Criminal Background Clearance;
Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
