Position Highlights
:
The Department of Internal Medicine is expanding our team to welcome an experienced Clinical Research Nurse. This team member will assist in the successful execution of industry-sponsored and federally funded clinical trials as well as department investigator‑initiated research from protocol concept through clinical study report. The role will provide dedicated nursing support, navigating clinical trial patients through study‑specific procedures for the Department of Internal Medicine.

The Clinical Research Nurse must be knowledgeable in outpatient, inpatient, and surgical settings, and must support cardiac and pulmonary critical‑care research needs.

Duties & Responsibilities Study Coordination
  • Participate in feasibility assessment of new studies by reviewing potential protocols, informed consent documents, and evaluating their effect on standard clinical research procedures.
  • Screen and enroll participants: assess patient eligibility based on protocol-defined criteria, recruit participants, schedule appointments, interview and evaluate potential participants to ensure they meet eligibility requirements.
  • Obtain informed consent: explain the study to participants, obtain consent, and address concerns.
  • Visit scheduling: coordinate patient appointments, procedures, and follow‑ups as required per protocol.
Patient Care and Clinical Assessments
  • Monitor participant health: assess and record vital signs, review lab results, and collect/report adverse events.
  • Administer treatments/interventions in accordance with the protocol.
  • Coordinate and/or perform physical assessments required by the protocol.
  • Perform lab draws and other protocol procedures.
  • Administer injections where an RN license is required.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for participants and families.
Data Collection and Documentation
  • Document medical data in patient records.
  • Maintain original data related to the trial for audits and reviews.
  • Assist physician and/or principal investigator in writing manuscripts for publication and presentation of materials at conferences.
  • Enter data into electronic databases, ensuring accuracy and compliance with study timelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of patient data, trend labs and other clinical data, and report study outcomes.
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
  • Ensure all study activities are conducted in compliance with IRB protocols, FDA regulations, and Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
  • Report adverse events and protocol deviations promptly.
  • Prepare for sponsor visits and/or regulatory audits, manage records and communication.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate with principal investigators, research nurses, coordinators, and the healthcare team.
  • Actively participate in clinical research team meetings.
  • Assist in training/mentoring other research staff on study procedures or protocol amendments.
  • Train, oversee, and provide current patient information to clinical nurses and other health‑care personnel to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Serve as the primary contact between participants and the study team.
  • Evaluate and develop patient educational materials and provide instructions on drug administration and other medical information.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of clinical/translational research.
Minimum Qualifications
  • RN licensure and graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • 5 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of floor nursing experience.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate night and weekend enrollments, as needed.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Experience in human subjects research including clinical trials.
  • Certification with SoCRA or ACRP.
  • Experience with research protocols, development, and regulations.
  • Motivated to provide high‑quality, compliant research.

Compensation

Salary: $86,870 – $112,932 per year (Full‑time, 1.0 FTE). Rate of pay range provided as a reasonable estimate.
