Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse licensed in the State of Arizona; evidence of completion of a physical assessment skills course; eligible for Arizona School Nurse Certification; current CPR Certification
Preferred QualificationsThree years of experience, education or experience in pediatric nursing or urgent care nursing; ability to work effectively with many people; knowledge of handicapped children; and physical assessment skills with sports injuries
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Evaluate health care needs of students
- Maintain records as deemed necessary by the school physician and in compliance with State laws
- Administer medications and maintain records including dosages and untoward effects
- Educate students in personal hygiene and total health care
- Assist with doctor's clinics to describe the student's condition to the physician and interpret the medical information to the student and his/her parents
- Keep current medical records on each student
- Conduct routine surveys and annual screenings
- Keep parents apprised of student health status
- Work with physicians at the Student Health Center and throughout the State of Arizona
- Manage student emergencies related to accidents and health care
- Communicate student health care needs to the instructional staff
- Take sign language classes for communication with deaf students
Good knowledge of assessment and treatment of children four (4) to twenty-two (22) years of age; good planning, organization, and communication skills; injury assessment skills helpful
Special Conditions/RequirementsMust utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required
