Position Summary

Provide comprehensive nursing care to children and adolescents from birth through late teens in a pediatric unit. Work directly with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with policy and professional standards.

Core Functions
  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Review patient history, physical exam, diagnostics, and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians.

  • Formulate a patient-specific plan of care, including discharge plans, based on assessment data and input from the patient, family, and healthcare team. Set realistic, measurable goals and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team. Revise the plan as patient needs change.

  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of team activities. Follow physician orders and nursing plans in accordance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Delegate and supervise care provided by other licensed nurses and staff.

  • Evaluate patient and family response to care and teaching. Revise the plan of care as needed. Assess patient progress toward goals and outcomes with the care team.

  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Records must be legible, timely, and compliant with policy, reflecting objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient responses.

  • Provide evidence‑based care and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Engage in unit or facility shared leadership and contribute to education, role development, and orientation of staff, patients, students, families, and visitors. Promote the growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.

  • Contribute to society by improving patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Participate in initiatives to improve national nursing quality indicators and outcomes, and engage in professional organizations.

  • Supervise staff and workflow of the department where applicable.

  • Collaborate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts (e.g., community providers, agencies). Provide spiritual support via clergy as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona; temporary/interim or compact RN license acceptable.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Current experience in an acute care pediatric setting preferred.
  • Minimum one year of acute care experience in the specialty area for Registry/Travel positions; at least one year of acute care experience as RN in the specialty area within the past 12 months.
  • Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area of practice through annual validations.
  • Possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit when required by the specific role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Professional certification in pediatrics or related specialty preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
Benefits and Compensation

The position offers a flat rate $3/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential. Full‑time benefits include health, financial security options, and other comprehensive plans available to eligible employees.
