Medical/Surgical Unit‑5EW. Full‑Time, 72 hours per week.
BSN required, 2 years direct patient care experience, RN supervisor or leadership experience preferred.
Responsibilities- Supervise, assess, plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate patient care and staff development.
- Determine and maintain unit or program needs and standards using the nursing process and evidence‑based information.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into performance.
- Assist the Clinical Director in management of the unit’s assigned staff and patient population.
- Provide direct patient care according to unit needs and collaborate with physicians in executing medical care plans.
- For RN staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients, apply knowledge of stroke symptoms, protocols, NIHSS, Stroke Alert activation, quality indicators, education materials, and community resources.
- Oversee staffing; hire, onboard, evaluate, manage performance, coach, develop employees, ensuring productivity, quality, and alignment with mission, vision, values.
- Establish or contribute to care plans, administer medication, manage IV lines, administer therapies, record observations, consult with physicians and clinicians.
- Ensure compliance with policies, maintain financial integrity and develop/maintain department budget.
- Serve as a resource to staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors, improving patient experience and outcomes.
- Teach patients and families illness management, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, medication and therapy self‑administration.
- Facilitate inter/intra departmental collaboration, communications, and problem solving.
- Participate in policy revisions, committees, and unit action planning.
- Participate in recruitment and retention through role modeling, education, and preceptor/mentor programs.
- Coordinate educational and professional activities as needed.
- Round regularly with physicians, patients, or families to facilitate quality practice.
- Utilize nursing process and evidence‑based practice to provide care and evaluate patient plans.
- Initiate and support quality improvement initiatives and use resources effectively.
- Direct staff in application of nursing process.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN, BScN) from an accredited institution.
- 2 years as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.
- 3 years as RN preferred.
- Licensed to work as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona (RN license).
- Mandatory basic certifications:
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) healthcare provider training course. - Must obtain a certification in area of expertise within 1 year of hire or promotion to meet magnet standards.
