Registered Nurse RN Associate Director Labor and Delivery

Position Summary

Associate Director – Labor & Delivery (Night) – Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, Glendale, AZ.

• Provide clinical leadership and management of the Labor & Delivery unit, ensuring safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered care.
• Serve as real‑time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians, guiding problem‑solving and supporting patient outcomes.
• Manage unit operations, resource utilization, staffing, and capital budgets to ensure efficient patient‑care delivery.
• Lead change initiatives, quality improvement projects, and regulatory compliance in collaboration with the Director.
• Communicate strategic, regional, facility, and departmental initiatives to all stakeholders.
• Develop and coach clinical staff, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
• Oversee selection, orientation, onboarding, retention, performance evaluation, and corrective action for nursing leadership.
• Serve as a role model for entry‑level nurse managers, driving clinical improvement initiatives.

• BSN required (MSN preferred). Current RN license in AZ and BLS certification.
• Minimum two years of clinical management experience in Labor & Delivery or related high‑risk obstetric setting.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, influence, decision‑making, analytical skills.
• Knowledge of neonatal intensive care unit and high‑risk antepartum care preferred.

• Master’s degree in nursing.
• Experience leading a Labor & Delivery team during night shift.
• Experience with quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and staff development.
