Job Description

Position: SPED Instructional Assistant/Personal Care Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Location: Quail Run Elementary School

Term: 9 months, 7 hours/day (08/03/2026 – 05/27/2027)

Grade: 17,
Pay: $17.50/hour

Employment type: Non-Interim, 1.0 FTE

Purpose Statement: The Instructional Assistant – Personal Care CNA provides support to the instructional program by assisting medically fragile students one‑on‑one, meeting their health care needs, supporting classroom instruction, and collaborating with the nurse to achieve student educational goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, or materials under the teacher’s direction to reinforce objectives.
  • Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance (diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication, etc.) as instructed by a health care professional.
  • Assist students with mobility concerns (wheelchair transfers, bus loading/unloading, etc.).
  • Attend meetings and in‑service presentations (first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the nurse to promote student health services and comply with care plans.
  • Communicate with instructional staff, support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Escort students to ensure their safety.
  • Maintain instructional materials and electronic records for availability, documentation, and mandated requirements.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods across various school environments (lunch, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, kitchen, etc.).

Other Functions: Perform related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Safety practices, office equipment operation, software applications, accurate record‑keeping.
  • Basic math, reading manuals, writing documents, presenting information, solving practical problems.
  • Background in instructional procedures, age‑appropriate activities, safety protocols, conflict resolution, child development stages, first aid and CPR.
  • Scheduling activities, data collection, using job‑related equipment; flexibility to work with others; problem‑solving; confidentiality; teamwork.

Responsibilities: Work under limited supervision following standardized practices; lead, guide, and coordinate others; utilize resources from other work units as needed.

Work Environment: Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fine finger dexterity. Approximately 34% sitting, 33% walking, 33% standing. Exposed to temperature variations and risk of injury or illness.

Experience: Job‑related experience required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Licenses and

Certifications:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Technician/Patient Care Technician.
  • Maintains necessary certificates and licenses.

Clearances:

  • Criminal background clearance.
  • Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
