Banner Estrella Medical Center is an American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognized 317‑bed facility in Southwest Phoenix. The 73‑bed Emergency Department (ED) provides care to pediatric and adult patients. With a focus on patient experience, we are committed to providing safe and compassionate care to our patients. The annual volume of the ED is nearly 100,000 visits and is also a Level4 Trauma Center.
Banner Estrella maintains NIHSS Stroke Gold Elite Plus, Chest Pain and Pediatric Preparedness accreditation.
As an Associate Director you will develop leadership skills by overseeing direct care staff. Day‑to‑day operations include financial oversight of departmental budgets, productivity and supplies. You will have 24‑hour accountability for your area of responsibility. This position reports to and is supported by the Director.
Core Functions- Directly reports:
Supervises nursing management and/or clinical staff. - Matrix or indirect reporting:
Clinical staff; assigned full authority for employment actions including training, coaching and performance reviews; oversees selection and termination of staff in cooperation with entry level nurse manager.
Typical direct patient care environment:
Nutrition Rep, Chaplain, RN. Must stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly to unexpected patient care needs. Requires fine motor skills and ability to grasp and handle objects. Must use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating and transferring. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Must use standard precautions due to exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
Requires adequate hearing and visual acuity. Requires ability to communicate effectively.
- BSN or MSN required for all new hires; BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months of transfer/promotion.
- Current RN license in state of practice.
- BLS certification.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of clinical care management; two years of clinical management experience relevant to patient population.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area.
- Critical thinking, communication, influence, decision‑making, analytical, and flexibility skills.
- Must practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements.
- In LTC setting: familiarity with Alzheimer’s disease and developmental disabilities.
- Behavioral health:
Requires Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire and maintained.
- Master's degree in nursing preferred.
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
