- Supervises, assesses, plans, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates patient care and staff development; determines and maintains unit or program needs and standards using the nursing process and evidence‑based information.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into job performance.
- Assists the Clinical Director in managing the unit’s assigned staff and patient population.
- Provides direct patient care according to unit needs and collaborates with physicians in executing the medical plan of care.
- All RN staff who have direct responsibility for the care of stroke patients must have knowledge of:
- Stroke symptoms and warning signs
- Protocols and pathways for identifying, evaluating, and managing stroke patients
- NIHSS
- Stroke Alert activation and protocol
- Stroke quality indicators
- Available stroke patient education materials and community resources
- Educational requirements
- Stroke Center website resources
- Oversees staff and ensures adequate patient care, including hiring/onboarding, evaluating performance, coaching, and developing employees to align with mission and values.
- Establishes or contributes to a care plan, including medication administration, dosage checking, IV line management, therapies, observations, and physician consultation.
- Ensures compliance with all policies and financial stewardship, maintaining departmental budget integrity.
- Serves as a resource to staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors to improve patient experience and clinical outcomes.
- Teaches patients and families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explain post‑treatment and home‑care needs, and plan diet, nutrition, and exercise programs.
- Facilitates inter/intra‑departmental collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving.
- Participates in policy revisions, committee work, goal creation, and action planning for the unit.
- Contributes to recruitment and retention of talented staff through positive role‑modeling, peer relationships, staff education, and preceptor or mentor programs.
- Coordinates educational and professional activities related to departmental and unit needs.
- Rounds regularly with physicians, patients, or families to promote quality practice and improve the patient experience.
- Utilizes the nursing process and evidence‑based practice to assess and evaluate patient plans of care.
- Initiates and supports quality improvement initiatives and uses resources efficiently.
- Directs staff in applying the nursing process, coordinates patient care, and promotes independent functioning among employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution.
- Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Preferred 3 years as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- State licensure as a Registered Nurse in Arizona.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Training Course.
- Must obtain a certification in the area of expertise within 1 year of hire or promotion for magnet standards.
