Position Summary

As a Cardiac Cath Registered Nurse, you will support patients during high-acuity invasive cardiac and electrophysiology procedures, including prep and recovery in the post‑anesthesia care unit (PACU). Responsibilities include administering sedation, managing intra‑TEE and DCCV, performing sheath pull and radial access, recovering patients from general anesthesia, and providing post‑procedure care for STEMI patients and other high‑risk inpatients. Administrative duties such as phone management, scanning records, chart prep, and nursing station responsibilities are also required.

Functions
  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Review patient history and physical with patient/family and assure completion within an appropriate timeframe.
  • Formulate a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family, and health team input. Initiate a plan of care based on patient‑specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care in compliance with policies, procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Evaluate the patient's and family's response to care and teaching, and revise the plan of care as needed. Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation must be legible, timely, and in accordance with policy.
  • Provide care based on the best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, families, and visitors. Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring.
  • Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes, including participation in professional organizations and improvement of national nursing quality indicators.
  • In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Current valid RN license in the state of practice; temporary/interim RN license or compact RN licensure is acceptable.
    • BLS certification required.
    • Must possess clinical experience in the cardiac or acute care setting, including invasive cardiac procedure prep and recovery, femoral artery access management, sheath pulling, radial access management, and TR band use.
    • Experience in a surgical, procedural, PACU, or cardiac ICU setting for a minimum of five years.
    • Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.
    • Experience with sedation/general anesthesia recovery and intra‑TEE/DCCV management.
    • Ability to pull sheaths and perform manual holds on the artery.
    • Ability to hold STEMI patients and provide specialized inpatient care when needed.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and, if required for travel or home health functions, appropriate insurance coverage.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field.
    • Professional certification in cardiac or critical care nursing preferred.
    • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
