Job Summary

The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medication, and follows up with patients. The RN establishes or contributes to care plans, manages medication administration, cares for IV lines, provides therapies and treatments, records observations, and collaborates with physicians and other health clinicians.

The RN teaches patients and families about illness or injury management, post‑treatment and home care, diet and exercise programs, and self‑administration of medication and therapy. The RN directs licensed practical nurses and aides, delegates when appropriate, and aids new staff and students in developing competency skills. The RN continuously enhances knowledge in nursing management and patient care, seeking to improve patient outcomes.

Essential

Functions

Collect and prioritize health data systematically, analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses, and use nursing diagnosis to develop and evaluate patient‑centered, evidence‑based care plans that meet individualized outcomes. Implement interventions, including treatments, medication, emergency and resuscitative measures, and provide comprehensive nursing care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs. Document observations and interventions accurately, evaluate progress, and adjust care plans as needed to maintain and enhance outcomes.

Evaluate nursing practice against professional standards, laws, and regulations; maintain current knowledge; integrate ethical principles; and promote diversity and cultural competence.

Collaborate with peers and multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care delivery. Support quality improvement, evidence‑based practice, and the adoption of research findings into clinical practice. Consider cost, effectiveness, and safety in planning and delivering patient care, using resources efficiently.

Education

All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5+ years of RN experience at the time of hire. Associates in Nursing are acceptable. Bachelors (BSN) preferred.

Experience

Minimum 1 year of RN experience required for all float positions. Candidates with more than 10 months in a med‑surg or acute specialty setting are preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona or compact state licensure required upon hire.
National certification for unit‑specific patient populations preferred.
