American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position at a Level I Trauma Center in Phoenix, AZ, requiring a minimum of 1 year PICU or ICU experience plus 1 year of Phase I PACU experience in a mixed pediatric/adult setting.

Requirements
  • Active AZ RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Required certifications (all must be in hand): ACLS, BLS, PALS, and an advanced trauma certification (TNCC, ATCN, or TCAR)
  • Minimum of 1 year PICU or ICU experience AND 1 year of Phase I PACU experience in a mixed pediatric/adult PACU at a Level I Trauma facility - both are required (hard stop)
  • Alternatively, candidates with a combination of pediatric and adult PACU experience in work history may be considered, provided both are present
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • Proficiency in central line care/management, IV vasopressors, care of ventilated patients, chest tube management, and Malignant Hyperthermia Protocols
  • Prior travel experience required
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
Responsibilities
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30)
  • Mixed adult (70%) and pediatric (30%) PACU setting at a Level I Trauma Center
  • Patient population spans neonates through geriatrics, including complex burn, trauma, and critical care cases
  • 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • On-call requirement of 4-6 call shifts per 6-week schedule, with further details discussed during interview
  • Weekend requirements are varied and will be discussed during interview
  • Epic EMR - experience required
  • No floating required
  • This facility is the only burn center in Phoenix and manages highly acute pediatric and adult cases, including major burn injuries, complex trauma, and critically ill patients
  • Nurses must be prepared and comfortable caring for pediatric patients across a wide range of scenarios on an as-needed basis - the volume of pediatric patients can fluctuate week to week
  • Examples of expected case complexity include:
    Phase I recovery for a pediatric scald burn patient with 30%+ TBSA grafting, a 3-month-old post‑pyloric stenosis procedure, a pediatric tonsil rebleed, and simultaneous care of a vented pediatric ICU patient and an adult ICU post-op patient during on-call hours
  • Teaching hospital experience is preferred
  • First-time travelers are generally not accepted, though exceptions may be considered for candidates with exceptionally strong and well-rounded experience who meet all other requirements
  • Labs must be completed within 48-72 hours of accepting an offer
