American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Inpatient Neuro Rehab travel assignment in Arizona, requiring Level 1 trauma experience and strong Med-Surg skills for a night shift role in an acute care setting.
Requirements- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS certification required — pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with strong Med-Surg background
- Level 1 Trauma experience is required
- Rehab experience is preferred
- Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation — two attempts are allowed
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
- Two professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- Proficiency in sterile field technique (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is essential
- 52-bed Inpatient Neuro Rehab unit within a Level 1 Trauma, acute care hospital setting
- Patient population is approximately 90% neurological, including TBI, brain tumor resection, CVA, lung transplant, and liver transplant — average LOS of 19–21 days
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6; tech ratio is 1:8
- Charting is done in Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts with 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
- Holidays are worked into the core rotation based on unit coverage needs
- Floating is required to any Med-Surg unit
- Two charge RNs are on shift with light assignments based on census
- Nurse aides are available on the unit
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7
- 3 Rehab Physicians round daily; on-call coverage is available at night
- A SWAT RN is available for difficult IV access
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
- Telemetry and ventilator management are not required for this role
- Nurses provide acute Med-Surg care including IV therapy, wound care, and personal involvement in patient and family communication as part of an interdisciplinary partnership model
- Interdisciplinary team rounds are conducted; therapy is provided 5–7 days per week, 3 hours per day, with busiest times between 6–9 AM and 6:30–9 PM
- On Day 1 of orientation, nurses must pass a pass/fail SIMs Lab skills assessment covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — nurses have been terminated for breaking sterile field during this assessment
- Orientation also includes educational components on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Candidates must have natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean-shaven (for fit testing purposes)
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible — candidates placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- Scrub color requirement is slate grey
- Travel nurses are expected to have their own personal vehicle
