Qualifications

Valid Arizona State Nursing License
At least two (2) years of experience as RN or Public Health Nurse or public school nurse, preferred.
Current certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid Certification
Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Ability to obtain National Provider Identifier (NPI) Number and AHCCCS  order to participate in the Medicaid School Based Claiming Program
Knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of comprehensive school health programs and approved school health practices.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, first aid, illnesses and injuries, nutrition, and related areas.
Ability to diagnose and provide care for ill or injured students.
Ability to describe orally and in writing school health services provided, issues and concerns regarding school health.
Adhere to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including requirements outlined in federal and state law, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
Ability to operate computer equipment for email communications, word processing, data management, and other assigned tasks as related to the position.
Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members.
Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
Ability to understand and maintain students' and parents' rights to confidentiality and not violate those rights; nor discuss students in inappropriate places or with anyone not in direct contact with such individual students.
Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

To provide assessment, screening, planning, intervention, evaluation, and/or referrals concerning the health and medical care needs of students to minimize absences due to illness, maximize educational opportunities, and create a healthy school climate.
Assist in the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive school health program.
Perform nursing assessment for students who are ill or injured; apply appropriate theory as basis for providing first aid, daily school nursing care, intervention and referrals for those students.
Administer medicines and treatments, and provide care to special needs students.
Perform health screenings, and conduct health counseling and education.
Assist faculty in identifying and understanding student health problems and advise on modification of the education program to meet the health needs of individual students.
Work collaboratively with health care providers, students, parents, school district staff and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students, aligned with all privacy laws.
Participate in staffing and child study team meetings, as needed.
Collect information about the health and developmental status of the student in a systematic and continuous manner.
Develop individual health care plan (ICHP) when needed with specific goals, nursing diagnosis, and interventions delineating school-nursing actions unique to students' needs and for incorporation into the student's individualized educational plan (IEP).
Provide guidance, counseling and health education to students, parents and employees as necessary.
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law, and Board of Education policies.
Prepare and submit mandated reports to ensure compliance with state immunization regulations and Board of Education policies.
Implement Board policy concerning the exclusion and readmission of students according to the Arizona Department of Health regarding certain infections and contagious diseases.
Make home visits, when needed.
