The Division of Neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children's is seeking an experienced certified Physician Assistant to join our nationally recognized pediatric neurosurgery program. While pediatric neuroscience experience is preferred, all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
As Arizona's largest pediatric neurosurgery program, we provide comprehensive outpatient, inpatient, and surgical care for children with a broad range of neurosurgical conditions. Serving as the primary referral center for a population of more than 7 million people—including approximately 1.5 million children—our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional, family-centered care.
Position SummaryThe Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive, team-based care for pediatric neurosurgery patients across inpatient and outpatient settings. Responsibilities include patient evaluation and management, inpatient consultations, daily rounding, perioperative care coordination, discharge planning, outpatient follow-up, and participation in multidisciplinary specialty clinics. The role includes approximately four call shifts (days/nights) per month, including weekends and holidays.
Clinical Responsibilities- Conduct outpatient evaluations and ongoing management of pediatric neurosurgical patients.
- Perform inpatient consultations, daily rounding, and coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Document care in the electronic health record and communicate effectively with consulting services, nursing, rehabilitation, pharmacy, and other multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinate surgical care, discharge planning, and outpatient follow-up.

The division provides approximately 6,000 ambulatory visits, inpatient consultations and follow-up care, and performs approximately 1,000 surgical procedures annually. Clinical services are offered at Phoenix Children's main campus and five satellite locations:
Scottsdale, East Mesa, Mercy Gilbert, Arrowhead, and Avondale. Daily virtual rounds and regular clinical conferences support a highly collaborative practice environment.
Phoenix Children's is one of the nation's leading freestanding pediatric healthcare systems. The main campus includes 483 licensed beds, including 72 pediatric intensive care beds and 49 NICU beds, with ongoing expansion to 610 licensed beds and an additional 60 NICU beds. As a teaching hospital, Phoenix Children's supports pediatric residency and fellowship programs and invests approximately $10 million annually in clinical research.
This position works in collaboration with the attending physicians and works within their scope of practice to provide excellent clinical care for patients. Plays a critical role in the patient family medical team. Professional who may practice in hospital’s inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
Position Duties- Conducts comprehensive health history, physical assessments and plans for infants, children and young adults with acute and chronic health conditions. Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients.
- Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
- Formulates family centered plan of care. Performs daily documents as necessary. Collaborated and coordinated care with other team members.

- Performs any needed advanced procedures that are associated with their credentialing process DOP.
