Job Summary

The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a Food Products Inspection Supervisor for the Meat and Poultry Inspection Program. This is NOT a remote position and requires the successful candidate to work onsite in Phoenix, AZ. This position supervises and trains employees for the Meat and Poultry Inspection Program. Assist the Program Manager as needed on Federal and State audits.

Conduct on‑site visits or inspections as required. Maintain documentation and file reports as needed to the proper authority. Stay up to date with all directives and recall information from the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Maintain a working relationship with industry and respond to any questions or concerns.

Job Duties
  • Supervise subordinate staff on a day‑to‑day basis in all FSIS/ADA requirements. Delegate work schedules and activities for employees. Approve leave requests and time‑worked entries. Ensure employees are properly trained and document required personnel files. Assist with Federal and State audits or in‑plant reviews. Maintain a working relationship with industry and respond to any questions or concerns.
  • Perform verification for Humane Handling of Livestock. Conduct ante‑mortem inspections of live animals and segregate suspect animals. Perform ongoing visual and direct inspections of carcasses, viscera, and organs, incising lymph nodes and palpation. Monitor each animal for zoonotic diseases, residue, lymphoma, or pathology of human health concerns. Comply with pathogen intervention, HACCP, SSOP, pest control, and food security. Brand inspected and passed carcasses with the official mark of inspection.

    H7 and submit to laboratory for analysis.
  • Verify processing is performed according to plant Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points. Ensure product meets all Critical Control Points through direct observation of monitoring procedures or review of records for critical times and temperatures. Verify the plant’s verification protocol prevents health hazards or pathogens from reaching consumers. Maintain food security. Sample product and environment for pathogens of concern and submit to laboratory for analysis.

    Perform reassessments as required. Ensure compliance with public health ingredients.
  • Ensure Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures are maintained daily by performing pre‑operational and operational verifications of facility, equipment, and procedures. Verify compliance with product formulation, Product Standards, Net Weights, Batter/Breading, Yields, Labeling, CN/Grade Labeling, Declared Count, Vignette, Finished Product Standards/AQL, Boneless Meat Defect Criteria, Pork Skins, Moisture, potable water, and sewage disposal.
  • Maintain in‑plant records and files. Stay up to date with all directives, recall information from FSIS and USDA. Complete USDA/ADA training as mandated. Work on assigned computer with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, enter databases, and word‑process. Mentor less‑experienced personnel. Comply with all Arizona Department of Agriculture requirements.
  • Drive a state vehicle for state business and other duties as assigned.
