The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing product inspection and verification activities to ensure products meet established specifications, inspection standards, control plans, procedures, and customer requirements.
This position provides independent verification of product quality, accurately documents inspection results, identifies potential nonconforming material, and initiates appropriate hold, containment, and escalation activities when required.
The Quality Inspector works closely with Quality and Manufacturing personnel to support defect detection, product verification, customer protection, and continuous improvement while maintaining accurate quality records and effective communication across shifts.
Reports to:Paint Department Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Perform visual, dimensional, and other required product inspections before, during, and after processing in accordance with established specifications, control plans, inspection standards, approved samples, and customer requirements.
- Perform final product verification prior to release and identify visual, dimensional, surface finish, coating, handling, and other applicable defects.
- Verify products against applicable acceptance criteria and accurately document inspection results.
- Identify, document, segregate, and communicate nonconforming or potentially nonconforming material in accordance with established procedures.
- Initiate product holds and containment when required and promptly escalate ma significance or recurring quality concerns through the established Quality escalation process.
- Perform containment, sorting, reinspection, and verification activities as required.
- Collect and accurately document defect and inspection data to support quality trending, Pareto analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
- Verify product identification, status, and traceability information and report discrepancies.
- Verify inspection and measurement equipment is appropriate for use and within required calibration status.
- Maintain Quality inspection areas, equipment, records, and documentation in an organized condition.
- Maintain effective communication across shifts and properly hand off open Quality issues, holds, containment activities, and pending inspections.
- Support product, process, internal, and customer audit activities, corrective-action verification, and other Quality-related responsibilities as assigned.
Competencies:
- Previous quality inspection or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Ability to interpret work instructions, specifications, inspection standards, and acceptance criteria.
- Strong attention to detail and visual defect recognition skills.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Ability to accurately document inspection results and communicate quality concerns.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions within established inspection criteria and escalation authority.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively with Quality and Manufacturing personnel.
- Ability to work in a production environment and follow all required safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
Production floor environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, forklifts, coating and finishing operations, and fluctuations in temperature. Required use of applicable personal protective equipment.
