Quality Control Technician – Heavy Civil Engineering

McMillen, Inc. isseeking an experienced Quality Control Technician / Inspector to perform construction materials testing, quality control inspections, and field documentation for concrete, earthwork, electrical, and environmental scopes of work.

The ideal candidate will have strong construction inspection experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and other construction documents. This position requires an individual who can work independently in the field, accurately document inspections and testing, and maintain a strong commitment to safety and quality.

• Inspect grading, forms, reinforcing steel placement, and embedded items prior to concrete placement.
• Perform fresh concrete testing, including:
  • Temperature
  • Air content
  • Unit weight
  • Yield
  • Concrete cylinder sampling
• Properly identify, store, and transport concrete strength specimens to the laboratory.
• Inspect concrete placement, finishing, and curing operations.
• Verify work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and project requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of concrete testing and inspection activities.
• Observe grading and compaction of aggregate, soil, and sand bedding.
• Inspect trenching, conduit and pipe installation, and proper backfill.
• Perform or assist with field testing, including:
  • Gradation testing
  • Moisture content testing
  • Sand cone density testing
• Document testing results and field observations.
• Observe and document conduit installation and placement.
• Verify installation conforms to project plans, specifications, and approved submittals.
• Perform environmental and erosion-control inspections as required.
• Monitor erosion and sediment control measures and construction activities for compliance with project requirements.

• 5+ years of experience in material sampling, testing, and construction inspection.
• Current ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1 certification required.
• OSHA 10 certification required.
• Experience serving as an Erosion Control Coordinator or SWPPP Inspector is preferred.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and related construction documents.
• Demonstrated experience documenting construction tests, inspections, observations, and results.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in an active construction environment.
• ACI Concrete Special Inspector certification
• ICC Concrete Special Inspector certification
• OSHA 30 certification
• Experience as an Erosion Control Coordinator or SWPPP Inspector
