Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate, Department of Basic Medical Sciences(College of Medicine - Phoenix)

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Department of Basic Medical Sciences

Dr. Xia Xiao’s laboratory in the Department of Basic Medical Science is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying liver fibrosis, focusing on BMP‑SMAD signaling and iron dysregulation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced, multidisciplinary research in iron metabolism and liver diseases under Dr. Xiao.
  • Design, develop and execute complex research projects, employing independent judgment.
  • Perform animal studies and imaging, and maintain detailed experimental records.
  • Present findings at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences, and prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to grant writing, including preliminary data generation, application submissions, and progress reporting.
  • Assist in supervising laboratory staff and support daily lab operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent laboratory and analytical skills with a commitment to scientific excellence.
  • Proficiency in statistics, data analysis, and interpretation.
  • Ability to conduct research independently and as part of a team, and to communicate findings clearly in oral and written form.
  • Experience with grant writing and manuscript preparation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Metabolism, Physiology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience with animal models; experience with iPSC‑derived organoids, flow cytometry (FACS), and primary liver cell isolation is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Track record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Interest in signaling transduction.
  • Experience in iron metabolism and liver pathophysiology.
