Position Overview
Wilson & Company, Inc., Engineers & Architects, a national multi‑disciplined engineering and architecture consulting firm, is seeking a full‑time Environmental Professional – Field Archaeologist to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona.
Responsibilities- Provide technical archaeological and cultural resources expertise to support projects in the southwest region.
- Mobilize rapidly for field assignments, traveling throughout the Intermountain West, Southwest, and occasionally out of state to support a national environmental program.
- Conduct archaeological and cultural resources field surveys and complete cultural monitoring activities.
- Document archaeological and historic built‑environment resources and prepare site forms and technical reports.
- Collaborate with engineering professionals across disciplines, communicate effectively with project teams and build client relationships.
- Assist with the development of resource management recommendations and secondary authorship of inventory reports.
- Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in archaeology, anthropology, or a related discipline.
- Participation in an archaeological field school or at least 1.5 months of full‑time archaeological survey and excavation.
- Working knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section
106 regulations, and state cultural resource statutes. - Experience with GPS data‑collection technologies (Trimble or Juniper GNSS receivers, ESRI Field Maps).
- Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, environmental, and cultural‑resources professionals.
- Task‑management skills with the ability to complete work on schedule and within budget.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong technical writing ability, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications.
- Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MS) in archaeology, anthropology, or a related discipline.
- 1+ year of directly relevant field experience, survey and/or excavation in the Great Basin or adjacent areas.
- 3+ years of progressively responsible task management and report‑writing experience.
- Permitted to conduct surveys under state and federal permits in the relevant areas (minimum 6 months of experience in applicable cultural areas).
- Experience working on jurisdictions such as the Navajo Nation, BLM, USFS, and state lands.
- Experience documenting historic built‑environment and historic architecture.
- Experience preparing NEPA documents at the national, state, local, and tribal levels, including desktop data collection, analysis, and technical writing.
- Experience coordinating and consulting with regulatory agencies.
- Experience with ESRI software for data collection and map creation.
Job Location:
Phoenix, Arizona
Hourly Rate: $17–$30 per hour, depending on experience
