Sundance Consultants, a part of True Environmental and its partner firms, has established the nation’s premier environmental and engineering services consulting firm. The company offers a wide range of services that aim to revolutionize the built environment and preserve the natural one, including environmental remediation, urban planning, engineering iconic coastal and marine structures, sustainable energy development, and pioneering resource extraction methods.
This is an on‑call temporary field technician position that will be directly responsible for all duties associated with archaeological fieldwork throughout the Western United States. Residence in Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado or New Mexico is highly preferred but not required.
The pay for this role is $20‑25 per hour, based on experience.
Responsibilities- Conducting archaeological pedestrian surveys
- Collecting archaeological data (GPS, photographs, site forms, site sketch, artifact sketch)
- Performing subsurface testing or artifact identification
- Measuring and fully recording artifacts
- Preparing high‑quality field notes
- Working as a team member or independently, as required
- Performing other duties as requested
- Managing overnight and day travel to support field work
- Providing for long‑term remote camping when necessary
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field
- At least 6 months of archaeological field experience or field school experience
- Experience in archaeological survey and excavation
- Ability to work in diverse, often difficult terrain, including hiking long distances up to 10 miles per day
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive team player with strong collaboration skills
- Excellent attention to detail and meticulous note‑taking skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Proficiency in operating GPS units and navigating with USGS maps or aerial photography and compass
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and under variable inclement weather
- Compliance with company safety standards
- Access to a laptop or computer for timesheets, expense reports, and office tasks
- Compliance with the federal contractor COVID‑19 vaccination requirement, with accommodations for bona fide medical and religious exemptions
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment up to 50 pounds on occasion
- Must complete fit‑for‑work testing, including drug and alcohol testing
- The position is temporary, part‑time, non‑exempt, and approximately 45 to 50 hours per week
- Per diem is typically on a GSA rate and generally never less than $50 per day; lodging is covered by Sundance and is not part of the per diem
- Opportunities for temporary post‑field office work may be available at the discretion of the Project Field Director and Principal Investigator
