This position performs non-research molecular testing of samples for potential biological threat agents. The incumbent ensures all operational, QA, and other sample types are processed while maintaining chain of custody, prepares reports, answers questions, troubleshoots, and recommends inclusion in comprehensive reports, and operates and maintains equipment safely, performing routine calibrations and adjustments.

• Conduct PCR-based assays and other molecular tests on incoming samples.
• Maintain chain‑of‑custody documentation for all samples.
• Prepare and submit detailed test reports.
• Perform routine equipment calibration and routine maintenance.
• Adhere to proper handling, storage, and safety protocols for all materials.
• Participate in a 7‑day‑per‑week laboratory schedule, including weekend and holiday shifts as needed.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of test methods and program requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related biological science field.
• Minimum one year of laboratory bench experience with PCR, aseptic techniques, and biological assays.
• Laboratory training that is assigned or accompanies a course does not meet the required experience.
