Position Highlights

The laboratory of Dr. Liya Yin of the Translational Cardiovascular Research Center (TCRC) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix invites highly motivated candidates to apply for a Researcher/Scientist III position in her NIH-funded lab. The successful candidate should have training in the broad area of biomedical sciences and specifically, molecular and cellular biology, cardiovascular physiology and vascular biology. The candidate should also have experience with designing, organizing, managing and carrying out research in cardiovascular physiology and vascular biology laboratory setting.

This position involves generating research hypotheses using controlled investigations, experiments and/or trials for research on cardiovascular disease using animal models of cardiovascular diseases, e.g. Ischemic heart diseases, diabetic cardiomyopathy, heart failure, coronary microvascular dysfunction, with a goal toward translating basic science findings to clinically viable potential therapeutics. The position is best suited for those well trained in in vivo animal models with strong background in cardiovascular physiology, vascular biology, coronary microcirculation and who is detailed oriented, conscientious, and able to follow instructions and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, design and conduct advanced, multi-disciplinary research in collaboration with PI.
  • Perform in vivo physiological examination to animals including, but not limited to: echocardiography, treadmill, Doppler, blood pressure. Isolation of mouse vessels, including the aorta, coronary artery, and perform vasodilation studies with myography.
  • Manage the mouse colonies.
  • Perform animal experiments (survival surgical procedure, e.g., open chest surgeries, contrast echocardiography, echocardiography, Doppler, treadmill, blood pressure measurement with a catheter,PV
    -loop) and data analysis. Measure the myocardial blood flow in vivo.
  • Remain updated on literature of the related research topic and develop the projects aligning with the PI's research focus.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaption and modification of standard scientific techniques.
  • Design, perform, and/or oversee experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
  • Report the experimental results along with original experiment data, protocol, analysis files (prism and ppt).
  • Perform aspects related to cellular and molecular biology research that include, but are not limited to: bulk RNA-sequencing, scRNA-sequencing, bioinformatics, qRT-PCR, Immunoblotting, proteomics and metabolomics, and Immunocytofluorescence, primary cell isolation and culture, seahorse analysis, and flowcytometry.
  • Attend and present research finding at regular group meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Manage daily laboratory operations, including manage, maintain, and order laboratory equipment and supplies; lab inventories and respond to administrative request and procedures.
  • Guide the work of others (students and trainees) and/or provides guidance to a specialized laboratory or research area.
